End goal was to establish Donax variabilis as a local model organism for genetics and cell biology labs. - Designed and optimized Mitochondrial-DNA isolation protocol. - Designed and tested primers for stepwise partially overlapping primer-based PCR method for isolating flanking unknown DNA regions. - Annotated complete circular mito-DNA from NGS.

Shadowed head of marine resources for Escambia county Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Worked on several county projects independently and with team of other interns. - Led multi-year microplastics investigation project. Monthly water samples from 12 local sites were collected, filtered, and examined under microscopy. Analyzed data on types of microplastics, amount of microplastics, and weather conditions to infer conclusions on abundance of microplastics in local waterways. - Storyboarded, shot and edited a funding video for our microplastics project. - Worked on community outreach projects for the impact of invasive lionfish, impact of microplastics, better practices to avoid polluting, and education on fish mercury content with FWC recommended fish consumption guidelines. - Surveyed 100+ people on their catches by the Oriskany artificial reef. Compiled and analyzed data to assess utilization of artificial reef. - Served as a contractor for a shoreline restoration project. Worked from project inception until completion. Built and placed breakwaters consisting of recycled oyster shells to reduce wave erosion of shore. Work led directly into fortification of shoreline with planted grasses.
