On June 4, 2013, Sims completed a successful 28 years of creditable service in Higher Education/Athletics Administration at Mississippi Valley State University. He most recently started a new and exciting career in the insurance industry. Sims’ career spans over 28 years as an athletics administrator and finally ending as Coordinator of Men's College/Lifelong Learning Field Officer at Mississippi Valley State University. During his years in athletics, he severed athletics in many capacities, serving as Acting Director of Athletics from 2007 to September of 2012, Sims, a native of Indianola and 1985 Mississippi Valley State University alum, got his start in athletics working as a student worker in the athletics director’s office at Texas Southern University. Sims, 60, retired July 1, 2013 after serving in a variety of capacities within the MVSU athletics department. Sims served as the school’s first-ever assistant sports information director (1985-2001), Athletics Book Room manager (1989-1995), compliance officer (1994-2007) and Acting Director of Athletics (2007-2012). During his tenure as AD, Sims saw the athletics program win an unmatched total of 12 SWAC Championships in a five year period, the most in MVSU athletics department history. During his years of service to MVSU, Sims has enjoyed many achievements. Most recently, he was honored with the 2012 Charles "Chuck" Prophet Award by the Southwestern Athletics Conference Alumni Association for his contributions to the SWAC and MVSU. Sims played a major role in seeing that Valley became certified during its second cycle of NCAA Athletic Certification in 2007. Sims is married to the former Barbara Lisa Ricks of Glendora, MS. They share a lovely daughter, Morgan and son Ethan.
