Donald Levy has been with Fineman West for more than 20 years and runs the firm’s tax department. His more than 40 years of experience have made him Fineman West’s point person for all tax issues affecting clients, from tax planning and implementation for mergers and acquisitions to complex estate planning.Many of the firm’s clients have profited from Mr. Levy’s wealth of tax-code knowledge. For example, one of the firm’s clients needed to reorganize his business due to debt, but calculated that the tax cost of the reorganization would put him into bankruptcy. He turned to Mr. Levy, who, through skillful planning, minimized the tax cost and allowed the client to complete his reorganization. For another client, Mr. Levy used discounts and other estate-planning techniques to transfer approximately $20 million in real estate at a value of only about $5 million.Mr. Levy is a contributing member of the California Society of CPAs, and serves on the group’s Taxation Committee both statewide and in the Los Angeles chapter. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).Prior to Fineman West, Mr. Levy was a partner at Laventhol & Horwath and an associate at Arthur Andersen. He earned both a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
