Suite Greeter

Current

Greensboro, North Carolina, United States

Proudly employed during the baseball season as a Suite Greeter for the High-A minor league affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. I also fill in as needed at the Guest Services kiosk.I welcome, check tickets, and provide information to fans seated in the ballpark’s skyboxes (suites). I also assist fans ticketed for general admission and in main seating bowl areas. Regardless of seat location, everyone is greeted warmly with a smile and a sincere desire to make their ballpark experience enjoyable.

Facilitated the distance learning program at the high school level. Created a video production program at Darmstadt Middle School and the video communications program at Gen. H.H. Arnold (Wiesbaden) High School. Neither school had video programs previously; both were created from scratch. I was a member of the initial Professional Technical Education Task Force, and subsequent Career Technical Education Task Force, which developed the organization’s systemwide standards for high school-level Video Communications courses. Volunteered on the School Advisory Committee (representative, vice-chair, and chair); Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (parliamentarian); ran the computer and video clubs; videotaped and edited football, basketball, and soccer games; videotaped and edited concert, drama, and special assemblies; videotaped and edited monthly faculty meetings (“flipped” meetings); and operated the scoreboard for high school football games. Coordinated meetings between City of Darmstadt and U.S. Military Community Activity Darmstadt representatives to establish a paper recycling program. Promoted the first-of-its-kind program through school activities and community-wide recycling drives. The Darmstadt MILCOM was awarded $75,000 from the Commander-in-Chief Installation Excellence competition for a paper I authored regarding the school’s participation in the recycling program. Developed the relationship to enable my students to provide news and information content (TV and radio) to local affiliates of the Armed Forces Network Europe.

Columnist

Griesheim, Germany

Compiled and wrote the weekly Volksmarch Column in Stripes Magazine (a Thursday insert) for readers in Europe; 327 consecutive columns in total. This involved soliciting event information -- primarily by mail, but follow-ups as necessary by phone -- from hundreds of local clubs throughout Europe. The information was returned to me in the language of the host club and had to be translated for the english-speaking readers of the newspaper. All of this work was done pre-Google using translation dictionaries and paper maps (remember those?). Worked alongside the magazine's editor as well as the employees who designed the pages at the newspaper’s headquarters in Griesheim, Germany. I also contributed news and features stories, as well as photographs/cutlines, for publication on a volunteer (and occasional freelance) basis.
