A team of CERN scientists and engineers created the HEV collaboration at the end of March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to develop a high-performance, low-cost and rapidly-produced ventilator. - Worked as part of the software team to design and develop the firmware and software for the device. - Developed a robust bidirectional asynchronous data server in Python to both read out and control the ESP32 microcontroller using a custom protocol. - Developed graphical tools using Python and PyQt5 and developed a native GUI in QML with a C++ backend and implemented internationalisation. - Developed a microcontroller emulator in Python, allowing for testing without a programmed microcontroller. - Set up and managed CI/CD tools to automate builds. - Managed the Git repository, performing code reviews and merges for several teams working on a rapidly developing codebase.

In the course of my PhD, I focused on software and firmware development, data visualisation, and data analysis, with an emphasis on integration between different software and hardware systems. - Developed electronic testing suites for the Vertex Locator Upgrade, using Python for scripting and using C and the WinCC framework to create GUI testing panels. - Wrote custom drivers and control software to automate measurements from low- and high-voltage power supplies, thereby enabling automated hardware tests. - Used C and the ROOT framework to conduct simulation studies for a new custom pixel chip. - Performed a physics analysis to search for CP violation in 28 decay channels of D mesons. - Taught Python, Bash and Linux courses to hundreds of CERN researchers in three successive years of LHCb's annual training programme. - Continued the optimisation and integration of the FPGA-based algorithm designed in my Master's research.
