About Steve Donalson
I have 16 years of in-depth experience as a regulatory compliance professional. I specialize in the ever changing worldwide requirements for product approvals. Just to name a few of these requirements: safety, FCC, EMC, RF, energy efficiency (CEC, ErP), RoHS, REACH, Bluetooth, etc..I have developed a strong understanding by being in the trenches runnng and managing complex, technical projects. This has taught me in order to successfully complete projects on, or ahead, of schedule the importance for developing and maintaining close relationships and partnerships with CB, NRTL, testing/certification bodies. Some of the include UL, Intertek (ETL), CSA, Nemko, Element, and many others.Working at one of the world’s leading certification bodies performing saftey/EMC evaluations and testing has allowed me to gain an understanding for testing laboratory operations, in addition to my experience on the manufacturing side. Performing the role of a sr. product regulatory compliance specialist has required that I am deeply familiar with managing and obtaining product testing/certifications for key sales markets such as the USA, Canada, China (CCC/SRRC), Singapore, Brazil (InMetro/Anatel), EU (CE, EN54, LVD, EMCD, etc.), UKCA, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and many others. The compliance function has the responsibility of developing, organizing, and maintaining all the technical construction files to store the mountains of documentation the function produces. I have been able to create and manage file structures that that are well organized and provide easy navigation for anyone to be able to quickly access the desired documents. These structures have been adopted and still in use by +$1b companies. Throughout my career it has been necessary to work closely with many 3rd party consultants, ODM, OEM, country authorities, among others all around the globe. Developing and managing these relationships are one of the keys to obtaining and continuing the green light for sales in targeted regional markets. I also have come to learn to be successful for the company the importance of close, trusted relationships with cross-functional, multi-cultural teams both interally and externally. These relationships range from shipping, executives, marketing, engineering, sourcing, legal, factory, all the way to the end customer. Having been the sole compliance resource in a global company taught me how to boil down very technical details in order to clearly and effectively communicate complex technical details to non-technical teams.
