My expertise is in New Product Development, from concept to Go To Market Strategy to successful end-user adoption. I am extraordinarily skilled at building technical requirements based on in-depth engagement with nontechnical, executive stakeholders. My extensive track record of success is due to my unique ability to gather product solution specifications based on what’s technically possible, and always with the end-user experience as a primary focus. In addition, I am equally as skilled at at identifying, developing and growing a team of junior developers into extraordinarily successful senior developers.I am able to leverage my breadth of technical expertise, and ability to effectively communicate with non-technical executive stakeholders to produce the solution (new product) that meets the market void they were seeking to fill. Mission accomplished - every time!

Health Systems Database ArchitectVanderbilt University Medical Center May 2014 - PresentNashville, Tennessee, Us[Product IRB 2.0] Vanderbilt hired me to work on the new version of their “Interdepartmental Review Board” (IRB) application, written in Java and Lotus. The new version was written in PHP, and MySql. I sat with the members of the IRB, who are nontechnical, and discussed their functional needs. From these conversations I was able to gather technical requirements, and draft a Fundamental Requirements Document (FRD).Architecture of and code migration of "Discover-E" doc archve program; integreate with "REDCap" Data capture application. -
Senior Solutions ArchitectRockbridge Media Feb 2012 - PresentRockbridge initially hired me as a fulltime employee. The owner continues to engage me for consulting projects. ● [Product: Customer Upload Web Site]Wrote a Google App Script form to allow clients to upload graphics files to the Rockbridge Google Drive, rather than having to FTP to a dedicated server. This allowed Rockbridge to eliminate a redundant server, and cut cost. This allowed in clients being able more easily submit their artwork, shorter delivery time, and increased revenue.● [Product: Order Tracking System] Rockbridge used to track customer orders on paper order sheets. When a sales rep needed to know the status of a client order, they had to walk through production, and find the physical order form. I visited the production facility, walked through the production line, and spoke to the workers. Understanding this process allowed me to gather technical requirements to automate their production tracking. I wrote an automated system that allowed tracking orders in real time, greatly improving order efficiency.● [Product: ecommerce sites]Rockbridge has many online stores, mostly running Magento ecommerce platform. We discovered these servers were under constant hacker attack. I wrote a program called Remedi8 that monitored bad traffic and blocked it. The result was an immediate reduction in malicious traffic, and no more hacking intrusions.

Database Architect - Application DeveloperC-Squared Jan 2016 - May 2016UsProduct: Site PortalCSquared had initially interviewed me to work on an asset management program. During the interview, they decided that given my broad skill set, they would rather hire me for their “troubleshooter” role. I was able to finally resolve a large number of longtime technical issues.● [Product, Site Portal 2.0] The Site Portal web application displays alarms across a cell carriers entire network. Some of the queries required for the dashboard took a long time to run, and this had been causing increasingly sluggish GUI performance, resulting in complaints from clients. This issue had been getting worse for two years. I analyzed the structure and implemented several optimizations that greatly improved performance, and noticed that the one table had over 21,000 records in it, but only 120 were required for the join; the rest were historical records. I partitioned the table so that the join only used the relevant 120 records, instead of the full 21,000. This measure alone cut the query time by 75%, and dramatically increased GUI performance, resulting in a better user experience, and continued successful enduser adoption● CSquared had an image for a development VM that ran on their racksystem infrastructure. I modified the VM so that it would run on developers laptops. This eliminated the need for developers to connect to the VPN for development. This allowed developers being more efficient, resulting in an improved time to market.● I wrote a shell script to automate the deployment of sandbox servers on the corporate infrastructure, including pulling the latest code from SVN. A process that would take a developer much of the day was now completed in 10 minutes. This allowed developers being more efficient, resulting in an improved time to market. -
Database Architect - Application DeveloperVirtuo Group Sep 2015 - Dec 2015Den Haag, Nl● [Product: Virtuo 2.0] Virtuo Group was migrating their Virtuo program from MSASP/MSSQL to PHP/MySQL. In addition to changing the database structure, I designed a simple changemanagement system based upon BASH scripts that would ensure database changes were properly pushed from development to test to production.● [Product: Virtuo 2.0] The Virtuo application consists of a mysql database, as well as an Apache web site. The site requires some rather complex permissions configuration. I wrote a installation script that would automatically create the database instance, create the web site, configure directory permissions, and -
E-Commerce DeveloperAthlon Sports Oct 2013 - Sep 2014Athlon Sports was using Mailchimp to manage their email campaigns. Whenever they made a change to their local database, they had to push several thousand changes to the Mail Chimp server. This resulted in very long update times, and timeouts. I rewrote their code that interacted with the Mail Chimp API, and got updates down to under three minutes.Developed E-Commerce and Process Automation solutions using Magento PHP

Database Architect - Application DeveloperTerenine Jan 2011 - Feb 2012Chattanooga, Tn, Us[Product: PDL 2.0] Terenine was upgrading their “Payday Loan” (PDL) program to a new version. The old version was written in PHP 4, and directly accessed the database table. I was put in charge of analyzing the current database, and drafting requirements to implement Doctrine 2.0. The PDL database consisted of over 600 tables, including many without indexes. I wrote a PHP program to configure the database so that Doctrine2 could create data objects from the tables. Doing this process manually would have taken many weeks. The final run time for the script was 15 minutes. -
Database Architect - Application DeveloperComcast Operations Support Services Mar 2010 - Jun 2010● [Product: Summary Report System] Managers in our department wanted to produce regular reports off of the network performance data stored in the corporatelevel Oracle server but their current reporting solution was not working. I met with managers, heard their problems, the shortfalls with the current system, and the reports that they needed to be able to create. I drafted a requirements document, and wrote a program to extract only the data that we needed (ie, Southern Division data that was missing) from the Corporate servers, scrub it, transform it, and store it in local tables on our MySql server. Reports that took 40 minutes to run now ran in under three minutes.● [Product: Database API] After learning that the OSS department had local data from the national databases, other departments had a requirement to generate reports based upon data from our database. However, our manager did not want to give said departments direct access to our data. I met with managers of our department, and other departments, and gathered requirements fordesigning a solution. I wrote an XMLbased API that allowed us to give specific access to specific departments that needed it. This eliminated the need for our department to run requested queries, and provide data in spreadsheet format.● [Product: IMP] Once we started importing data from the corporate Oracle server, we needed a way to monitor the imports. I met with members of our NOC, and worked out requirements for a program to monitor and control data import jobs. I wrote a program called Import Monitor Program (IMP) to control, monitor and restart import jobs.
