I get IT teams to work together to get things done. That leads to lower turnover and higher productivity and higher profits.Here's how it started: It was the early 2000s and I'd just finished helping my client's staff learn about BIND DNS software (it's a type of directory for Internet names) and Cisco routers. It was a good fit. You know...they liked me and I liked them. They asked if I could present customer service training to their IT staff. My client had had regular customer service trainers come in and, although they did a good job, they didn't understand IT culture. My client had the crazy idea to reverse the process and ask a technical trainer (me) to develop and present a soft skills topic (customer service), but from the perspective of a geek (their word). I agreed to do it and, over the next few weeks, worked with my team to build the training program. Instead of building the training based on making people follow stodgy scripts, however, we designed it to be transformative for the audience. The training program was based on changing the hearts and minds of the audience members to be more compassionate and to feel empathy for customers, colleagues, bosses, and, frankly, everyone. The client loved it and I realized that the concepts of compassion and empathy were potential life-changers for the people who heard the message (including me). Since then, as a speaker, my message of compassion and empathy has been delivered all over the world through keynote speeches, conference breakout sessions, corporate training, my books, videos, and online training. Clients tell me it has transformed the people who hear the message. Sometimes, audience members get a little uncomfortable, but that's a sign that the message is getting through!Let's get started.
