Principal Software Engineering Manager● Commercial Software Engineering: manager and sometimes technical lead for teams engaging on concurrent projects for a variety of customer problems and industries. Hire and form teams who can pick up new technology, learn a customer's systems, then envision and execute a plan that accelerates a project through to break new ground. These have included a focus on Azure technologies (such as Stack or CosmosDB) as well as standard open source solutions for data and services (Elasticsearch, Kubernetes, Kafka, etc.), with extra emphasis for devops/observability.● Content platform for MSN and Universal Store: manager of teams that created and run large-scale core services for worldwide Microsoft apps and web properties, including search, shared libraries, and the main data service teams. Led teams through migration to at first proprietary and then later Azure clouds, through devops team alignments, and kept partnerships with our platform services in good health. Co-architected new Content Management Service based on Azure, which ingests and serves high volume data (25k+ tps worldwide), with high availability, flexible scalability, and low latency over REST-ful api's, including successful legacy support and migration. The team also created and supports shared libraries for partners around CI, deployments (e.g. Chef), instrumentation, and caching.Senior Software Engineer● MSN platform: build tools, page load time optimization tools, Visual Studio extensions for tests, source control and package management. Some of these optimization tools would eventually ship with Visual Studio and be open sourced (not then common at Microsoft). ● MSN sites: create services and data for travel, local events and reviews, site/data editing tools, source control revamp to optimize sharing and build times, initiated MSN-wide shared javascript library, first use of json in MSN, established common proxy service and security pattern for it.
