Conducted independent research under the supervision of Professor Lu Kou of Columbia University on the narrative construction of the self in the written history of pre-modern China. Investigated primary source historical records such as Sima Qian's Shiji to explore the emergence and the boundaries of selfhood to propose alternative understandings of the modern/contemporary human self, using postmodern theoretical frameworks on semiology and narratology to structure literary analysis of ancient texts.
