I love to dig in and get to the bottom of a problem. A structure is loved and admired when it is new, but accidents, poor detailing, concealed problems during construction, and poor maintenance can cause structural problems down the road. I’m the guy who can tell you what went wrong, and how to fix it.

Structural EngineerPdc Inc. Engineers May 2007 - Feb 2014Anchorage, Ak, UsI gained widespread experience with industrial and utility projects including a $40M renovation of an existing electrical and mechanical distribution system. Work included many underground vaults and Utilidors and a 10,000 sf concrete and steel utility building.I traveled all over the State of Alaska performing evaluations on existing structures including a World War II era hangar and torpedo building in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. A complete renovation for the hangar was performed which included complete as-builting of the entire structure together with damage and corrosion assessment to determine reduced capacities and design services to bring the structure up to current design requirements.I have performed a variety of field services and it is one of my favorite parts of my job. I have performed special inspections for concrete and rebar placement, wood framing and hold-downs, steel bolting and field welding. I have crawled under building in temperatures as low as -40F. I have obtained confined space training and have crawled around in underground concrete utilidors. I have fall protection training and have traversed steel framing several stories above ground. I have diverse experience in all kinds of field services. I have worked on many new structures around the State of Alaska of steel, concrete and timber. I have designed foundations to consider arctic conditions and permafrost including 8” of expected settlement. -
Engineering InternAlaska Department Of Transportation And Public Facilities - Bridge Design May 2006 - Sep 2006I worked at the Bridge Design department as a college intern and began to get familiar with structural design as a practicing engineer.I frequently traveled around the State of Alaska assisting Bridge Engineers with bridge inspections. My detailed and accurate field notes were used by Bridge Engineers to write condition assessments that would determine the severity of damage and provide recommended upgrades or repairs. Accurate cataloging of thousands of field photographs to ensure correct labeling and bridge association helped expedite the report writing process.Time in the office was spent reviewing contractor submittals for bridges under construction including concrete, rebar and steel fabrications.

Engineering InternAlaska Department Of Transportation And Public Facilities - Construction May 2005 - Sep 2005I worked the Construction department as a college intern where I began to learn about how construction projects work and the roles between engineers and contractors.I worked primarily as a field engineer for a 35 mile road construction project just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. Typical duties involved the inspection of a foamed asphalt process that was a first in the State of Alaska. My complete and accurate field notes including weather, oil temperatures, depth of disturbance and locations were included in daily progress reports to record the condition and the progress of the construction. Other responsibilities included inspection of paving, ticket taking, and verification of contractor progress along the length of the project. My first ever rebar inspections were performed at the Chandalar Maintenance Shop on the Dalton Highway north of Cold Foot, Alaska!
