I’m told there are four types of leaders (and four types of job openings): the slash-and-burn cost cutter (not me), the maintainer (yawn), the project manager (e.g., implement ERP or digital business – I’ve got people for that), and the transformation leader. I’m looking for an engagement that requires real organizational transformation leadership.My experience spans multiple industries. I’ve learned that it’s easier for a strong transformational leader to learn an industry, than for an industry expert to learn to be a transformational leader.To me, “transformation” means building an IT organization that continually delivers strategic value (be it digital business, optimized supply chains, or whatever strategies emerge). It continually delivers cyber-security, reliable operations, dependable projects, technology architectures, innovation, and more. It’s a scalable, sustainable organization that taps all our bright minds – an organization that continues to prosper long after I’m gone.To do this, I focus on the key organizational systems that make or break performance: structure, culture, resource-governance processes, methods & tools, and metrics & rewards.In each of these areas, I take an engineering approach based on solid frameworks, firm principles, and collaborative change processes.In my first 90 days, I will deliver a clear vision of the end-state IT organization, a sober assessment of the gaps in light of that vision, and a pragmatic transformation roadmap. I’m eager to share with you an outline of my 90-day plan.
