As a small business owner, Don wears many hats. As the Manager of Papa Doo Run Run, his duties include negotiating bookings, coordinating travel, sound checks, and performance times, and interfacing with clients. As Producer, Don handles the production and design aspects of the band's videos and CD's, and maintains Papa Doo's web sites. As a performer, Don is a singer (lead and background tenor), and plays a battery of keyboards, including piano, Hammond organ, and various synthesizers. As leader of the band, Don handles most of the M.C. duties, as well as making the set lists, calling the tunes, and on the technical side, making sure the sound system, lights, and band gear are all working properly. For 3 of the 5 decades that Don has been a member of Papa Doo Run Run, he and his bandmates not only performed in their own show, but have performed and recorded with Jan and Dean throughout the 70's, and with members of the Beach Boys in the 80's and 90's. They also appeared as actors in the CBS-TV movie "Deadman's Curve". On their own, Papa Doo's members (Don included) have earned 2 Gold Record awards, and a Grammy nomination. Since 1996, in addition to performing with the band, Don has served on the Board of Directors (1st year as VP, and subsequent years as President and CEO) of Laurelhurst Cabana CLub., a private swimming pool / recreation facility and Cabana Club in Cupertino, CA. Don has taken LCC from the brink of closing down to being a thriving enterprise in the community. This year (2020) Laurelhurst celebrates 59 years of continuing service to the community, offering a private membership swimming and recreation facility that has become the jewel of the neighborhood. In his younger days, prior to and in the first few years of the band, while attending college, (San Jose State University 1964-70). Don had several part time jobs. Among them: office assistant and drafting apprentice for Vargus Iron Works, process server for Vanco Process Service (by far his most interesting job), operating the Quick Copy Service at NASA Ames Research Center, and assistant manager at The Embers, the largest night club on the SF Penninsula. But from 1973 on, being a musician would serve as Don's career.
