Director Of Development, Orthopaedic Surgery And Otolaryngology-Head And Neck SurgeryJohns Hopkins Medicine Oct 2018 - PresentFY21 -- all financial, etc., goals were met. My top achievement was being nominated and selected to serve on the inaugural 12-person DEI committee within Development and Alumni Relations at Hopkins, representing more than 450 Hopkins colleagues. This all-volunteer initiative implemented listening sessions, training/information sessions on DEI issues, provided an extensive list of curated trainings and resources, recommended to leadership a training policy for adoption as well as changes in hiring and retention of professionals to address DEI inadequacies within our system. We created a TEAMS site for collaboration and information sharing, and hosted several national thought leaders on DEI issues. FY20 was devastating for the country and the world. Change must happen. I am proud to be a part of Johns Hopkins Medicine not only for its local and world leadership role on Covid-19 but also because of its vocal stance on Black Lives Matter. Change must happen. Our donors recognized our excellence. My $3M goal was achieved in May and reached nearly $20M by fiscal year end in June, thanks to a new $15M pledge for our basic scientists in Otolaryngology. I was honored to have been selected for two internal strategic planning committees and after three years of work, our detailed recommendations were presented to colleagues and leadership. One of my joys is mentoring current and former colleagues and fundraising professionals in the community. My volunteer service includes a local organization and I am thrilled to provide my expertise to help an organization near to my heart. -
Director Of DevelopmentOtolaryngology-Head And Neck Surgery, Johns Hopkins Medicine Apr 2012 - PresentBaltimore, Maryland AreaWe closed the largest-ever gift to the Department in FY15: $15M, far exceeding the financial goal. It was a 12-month collaborative effort involving a team of researchers in the department, our Chairman and the Dean of Medicine. FY17 brought another $15M gift! This one was an almost three-year effort working closely with the treating faculty member and his very grateful patient. A faculty referral program was implemented five years ago, whereby we track the patient prospects faculty identify for development. Most of my faculty had not worked with development before I started. Our first year, faculty referred 35 patients, in the third year they had referred 92 patients and last year referrals to development topped 100. Much of my time is spent educating faculty about how to successfully fundraise, and building relationships with faculty and their support staff so they will understand/trust development efforts. My faculty and basic science researchers are brilliant and I'm honored to work with them. I am the lead fundraiser and development strategist for this Department. -

Vice President Of PhilanthropyAmerican Lung Association Aug 2005 - Mar 2007Managed a team of six: hired and fired in my time there. Created a gift planning program and an individual major gifts program; closed the largest-ever individual gift (from a living person) in the Chapter's history. Supervised three MGOs and support staff, spoke at the National Convention, and mentored other Lung associates across the country. The Maryland Chapter merged with the VA and NC Chapters and the development function was relocated to VA. -
Director Of DevelopmentHannah More School Jan 1996 - Aug 2005Reisterstown, MdSupervised a professional and a support staff person, reported directly to the school's Foundation Board as well as the school president. Created new annual fundraising events, completed two small capital campaigns, and secured the school's first-ever, and only, million dollar pledge. Exceeded all goals every year. The school, a non-public organization for children with autism or mental illness, has since been acquired by my former employer, Sheppard Pratt Health System.
