I explore the possibilities of concrete as a medium, often casting forms out of food containers, tin ceiling tiles and fabric to reveal the complexities of the human condition. Integrating a range of materials, from doilies, found porcelain objects and gold leaf, I create environments addressing the relationship between nature, architecture and the inevitable ruins of civilization. Embodying the philosophy of Kintsugi, a centuries-old Japanese art that celebrates an objects unique history by emphasizing its imperfections with gold leaf instead of disguising them, my sculptures are openly cracked and repaired, highlighting the notions of resiliency, history and archaeology. SculptorDonna Conklin Arts Llc Jan 2008 - PresentEverywhere, NjDonna Conklin King is a Sculptor living and working in Essex County, New Jersey. Her sculpture and Mosaic work can be found at The Wildflower Sculpture Park in The South Mountain Reservation, and the Turtleback Zoo in Essex County, New Jersey. She has exhibited her work in throughout New Jersey and New York, with solo shows at The Monmouth Museum, Index Art Center, Johnson and Johnson in New Brunswick and the Educational Testing Center in Princeton. Her work is in multiple private and public collections including the Artist Book Collection at the Museum of Modern Art, the Newark Public Library Special Collections and Skidmore College Art Collection. Donna has a BS in Studio Art from Skidmore College, held a foundry apprenticeship at the Johnson Atelier in Trenton NJ, and was an artist’s assistant for a year before receiving an MFA in Sculpture from Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of Art. She is the recipient of a Fellowship in Sculpture from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
