2011-present My reserch focus is understanding sensory nerve pathways arrising from the lower urinary tract and how this normal function is altred as a result of ageing or disease. I am also interested in the effect of botulinum toxin on afferent nerve function and transmitter release from the urothelium and i am currently developinga cell based co-culture model for studying neuronal-urothelial cross-talk. 2010-2011 One year IPODD fellowship to study the role of intestinal proteases in modulating sensory transmission from the colon. This project involved developing a model of post infectious IBS using the bacterial agent citrobacter rodentium and conducting extracellular afferent nerve recordings from mouse colon.

Research into the effect of high fat feeding on portal and intestinal afferent nerve excitability. I was primarily involved in 2 main projects. The first project involved devising a novel in vitro model to investigate the function of hepatic vagal afferents and nutrient sensitivity of the portal vein. The second project studied the control of satiety and food intake regulation and investigated the afferent changes occurring in a model of diet-induced obesity at the level of the nodose ganglion and the primary afferent nerve.
