I wrote award winning feature stories and personality profiles, covered government meetings, inked business profiles and reported on development trends: really, anything that may have affected residents and other stakeholders of Downtown Los Angeles. Plus, I'm a Downtown resident, so I heart covering my community.

I reported and edited all kinds of newsy stories that affect two cities in the San Gabriel Valley: South Pasadena and La Cañada Flintridge.

I taught English and creative writing to fourth-ninth graders

Valley Glen, Ca

I assisted classroom teachers at this private elementary school in the San Fernando Valley. It is a feeder school to Harvard Westlake and other parochial high schools around Los Angeles. Often times I subbed for absent teachers and taught an after-school enrichment class, Student Newspaper. I made press passes for the kids and ordered them Portage Professional Reporter's Notebooks. They wrote, I edited and designed. It was awesome.

Los Angeles

Covered civil court cases in Downtown Los Angeles, as well as wrote judicial and attorney profiles, and various feature stories that dealt with all parameters of the legal field.

Covered crime, mainly, and other goings on in the cities of Glendale and Burbank. Highlight of my career at that point: My reporting got an innocent kid sprung from jail because he had the best alibi of all time: He couldn't have abused those kittens because he was in L.A. County Jail the day someone tied them to a tree in a burlap bag and hit it with a baseball bat. (Happy ending: all kitties lived and found a loving home). Yup, also wrote about that.

Glendale, Ca

I covered courts, crime, and breaking news stories in Glendale, Montrose, Burbank and La Cañada. While reporting for the News Press, I won three first-place journalism awards: two from the California Newspapers Publishers' Association, for Public Service and Feature Writing, and one from the Los Angeles Press Club for investigative journalism.

Parkersburg, Wv

First post-collegiate gig. Covered breaking news and education for the daily newspaper in Parkersburg, WV, a town of about 35,000. Won a public service award for exposing how administrators at the Wood County Schools were using funds earmarked for a vocational technical institute to cover an unrelated debt the district had incurred.
