Earth Child Institute is an international NGO developing innovative solutions to address the rights, needs and capacities of children in the world of climate change, water and forest policy and programme development. ECI serves as a consultant, technical advisor and/or programme partner to UNICEF, Turner Broadcasting (Cartoon Network), UNEP, UNFCCC and others on issues related to climate change and child health and education for sustainable development. Our 2.2 billion: The Power of One Child + One Tree Campaign seeks to reforest and re-energize mother earth through the engagement and empowerment of her 2.2 billion citizens under the age of 18!ECI is incredibly proud to be the implementing partner for Swarovski Waterschools in the Amazon region of Brazil, Escola d'Agua. With focus on personal empowerment and engagement of adults who work with children (teachers, parents, youth leaders) ECI is now working with Swarovski Waterschools globally to develop teaching and learning materials.Through the Power of One Child Global Action Classroom, supported by UNFCU, in Brazil, Ghana, Cameroon, Japan, Nicaragua, Nigeria, UK, USA ECI is working toward sustainable integrated environmental solutions directly linked to community level access to safe water, sanitation, energy, environment and adaptation to climate change, especially in relation to risk reduction, preparedness and management.

As Global Director, Swarovski Waterschool (SWS), I lead and develop the activity of the SWS program in line with the approved strategy. My role was to develop the vision and mission of the Waterschool based on the interest of Swarovski and the needs of the partnering NGO´s. Exploring potential for cooperation with global organizations, the SWS team defines and monitors constant qualitative and quantitative review of existing Waterschool programmes as well as to evaluate strategic expansion of the Waterschool programme worldwide. Developing and identifying new ways of teaching and learning on water topics and in line with approved strategy, global educational campaigns on water for internal and external stakeholders.

Working with the UNFCCC Capacity Building and Outreach Unit to consult with UN Alliance on Climate Change Education, Training and Public Awareness and national focal points for Article 6 (Education, Training, Public Participation, Public Access to Information, Public Awareness, International Cooperation) of the Convention to develop Guidelines to support development of strategies and programme objectives related to Article 6.

Consultancy to support piloting of the resource kit "Mainstreaming Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction into the Education Sector" at global, regional and national levels.

Led development of UNICEF’s Environmental Education Resource Pack for Child Friendly Schools; children’s environmental health programming (with UNEP and WHO); developed a joint strategy on Children and Environment between UNICEF and UNEP; focal point for youth participation in the water, environment, sanitation, climate change sector; initiated development of internal policy frameworks to address climate change.Focal point for UNICEF Education Section as Chair of the UN Interagency Committee (IAC) of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD). Lead author of UNICEF PD/IRC policy paper Climate Change and Children: A Human Security Challenge including independent case studies on Southern Sudan and MoroccoDeveloped/co-authored a non-formal education guidance document for facilitators entitled Climate Change: Take Action Now in cooperation with UNICEF Civil Society Partnership section, Big 6 Youth Organizations and UN partners

I was author of the United Nations Classroom Resource Guide on Water and Marcia was Senior Advisor for the International Decade of Freshwater.Also, we worked together as colleagues during my time as Programme Advisor, Water, Environment and Sanitation at UNICEF
