International Case Management

As Nurse Manager and Program Director it is my responsibility to manage the day to day operations of this self-contained 30-bed acute comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation unit with oversight of the Medical Director, Psychologist, Case Management and Preadmissions.I staff and schedule nursing personnel while determining appropriate staff mix – including budgeting and managing the use of temporary agency nursing staff, as appropriate and evaluate individual performance of team members, which included Written Annual Performance Appraisals and Performance Improvement Plans.Financially I am responsible for developing and monitoring budgets and resource allocations while identifying strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of care and service. I also conduct regular medical records review and audits to assure quality measures are being followed and maintained.During my tenure I have promoted and improved patient services by problem solving patient complaints and grievances and have significantly decreased patient harm events (Falls, HAPU’s, CAUTI and CLABSI). I successfully manage and prepare for unit surveys for CARF and The Joint Commission and direct the provisions of the compliance plan, ensuring all standards are met for continuation of programs. I also am responsible for supervising compliance/regulatory related audits, working with surveyors.

I was brought on board to develop and provide services related to the orientation, continuing education, and assessment of clinical staff.During my tenure I collaborated with nursing leaders and staff to assess the learning needs and competencies of staff and designed, facilitated and assessed learning activities and curriculum related to clinical competencies, departmental/organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and the use of clinical information technologies.I was proud to have collaborated in the successful development, coordination, and delivery of staff orientation, competency evaluation and education activities.

Hired to support and assist with the development and actualization of the unit's goals and to manage personnel effectively; analyzed workloads and skill requirements to meet patient's needs for an assigned shift.I assisted with staff education and unit projects while providing a high level of productivity and dependability and ensured that department personnel followed hospital/corporate policies and procedures, safety and infection control practices.During my tenure I organized a successful Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse review course with 42 attendees from around the country and created two successful Unit Based Councils for the Intensive Rehabilitation Unit; Interdisciplinary Council working on patient safety issues; Nursing Based Council working on patient satisfaction issues.
