I am an Advanced Practice Nurse at the Royal Children's Hospital. My background includes extensive experience in working with adolescents including marginalised and disadvantaged young people and this is complimented by my postgraduate studies in adolescent health, sexual health and a Master in Public Health. In April 2015, I joined the Royal Children's Hospital Gender Service to establish the role of Clinical Nurse Consultant, a position that was unique within Australia. In this capacity I have aspired to advance my nursing role within the service into one that produces the best health outcomes for the young trans and gender diverse patients who are referred to the gender service. In 2016, I was the privileged recipient of the Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Nursing Development Scholarship which enabled me to travel to a number of international gender services to research how to produce the best outcomes for the young people and families we see. As an outcome the Single Session Nurse-led assessment clinic (SSNac) was developed.

  I have been pivotal in establishing a coordinated and integrated approach to the rapidly expanding RCH Gender Service's model of care. In my clinical role, I provide the a Single Session nurse-led assessment clinic. This consultation is first point of contact for families who access the service, providing young people aged 8-16 years a nursing assessment and triage, in collaboration with their family. Information, education and recommendations for community based support and services are also provided.
