Built in the spring of 1872, the freight house was the first building constructed for the New York Central & Hudson River railroad branch. This line serviced freight and passengers from Golden's Bridge to Grand Central terminal for more than 50 years. 100 years later, I was born into this little hamlet of Carmel with a dream to one day contribute to my community through food.This incredible building fell upon me like a block of ice packed in sawdust. (Which came from Lake Mahopac and shipped to NYC) So I hopped aboard! Through support of family, friends and local businesses, my dream became a reality. We serve local, organic food and work hard to only buy in the USA. Sandwiches, salads, soups, smoothies, juicing, coffee and teas,wine, beer and special cocktails are available at the cafe. I've created many of these recipes myself and some were inspired by my favorite places all across the country. I hire local Americans. I bring interns from the schools to help find their passion in the restaurant industry. I volunteer with many organizations in my community. I am truly grateful to be able to lead through passion. You can taste it in everyone of my dishes. You can feel it when you walk through the front door. The freight house cafe isn't just a resturant, it's an important part of the community. We are building real relationships through good, clean food. I welcome you to share in a piece of history, savor a cup of locally roasted coffee and enjoy some yummy, organic, grown in the USA food.
