Currently, I'm focused on expanding my earlier research on adolescents' literacies to include young people's interests in digital media productions that draw from popular culture and are rich in multimodal representations. I'm excited about two books coming out in 2010. One is with Margaret Hagood and Alison Heron-Hruby titled, "Bring It to Class: Unpacking Pop Culture in Literacy Learning" (Teachers College Press). The second is a book I edited titled "Adolescents’ Online Literacies: Connecting Classrooms, Digital Media, and Popular Culture" (Peter Lang). The latter includes authors from three continents and has implications for classroom teachers, school librarians, and media specialists.Specialties: As the external advisor/evaluator for a research project titled "Adolescent Struggling Readers: A Comparative Study of Good Practices in European Countries”, I had the opportunity to work for two years (2006-08) with researchers from other participating institutions, including Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, Romania, and Austria. The project was funded by the European Union’s Commission on Education and Culture, Brussels.
