Donna is the owner and proprietor of an incredible oceanfront vacation rental, Sea Ranch Abalone Bay (searanchabalonebay.com) located in the northernmost corner of coastal Sonoma County. Her accomplishments include presenting at conferences in both Spanish and English, grant management, research, writing, and teaching. She served as a consultant for various disability support foundations in Santiago, Chile.After living in Virginia for 12 years, abroad in Chile for 7, she returned to Sonoma County in 2018. In 2019, she was appointed as a committee member of the Regional Advisory Committee for the State of California Council on Developmental Disabilities. representing Sonoma County Developmental Disabilities' North Bay Regional Office. While in Virginia, Dr. Martinez earned her doctorate from The George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development in special education – with honors. Her undergraduate study at the California University at Sacramento was in cultural anthropology. She served as Director of The GW HEATH Resource Center (www.heath.gwu.edu), authoring teaching modules for transitioning youth and families, teaching both youth and preservice teachers, consulting on grant projects, supporting families seeking improved educational supports/services for their children, and advocating for improved policies and legislation at the national, state, and local levels. Her leadership roles include serving on and chairing national, state, and local committees and boards.Other activities that Donna enjoys include volunteer work in her community.
