As a professor, I taught courses in Botany, Plant Diseases, Animal Husbandry, and Farm Management. Designed and implemented numerous Teacher Training seminars for classroom, lab, and practical teaching strategies. Then as Director for student agriculture extension projects to regional villages, established the managerial procedures for student practical training; where they teamed with medical students to work with poverty-stricken villagers on projects, which often combined vegetable gardening, field crops, livestock management, agroforestry, and nutrition education. These Agriculture Extension Projects included extensive student research and assignment for program development for small-scale farmers and their families to increase food security and to promote environmental conservation practices by introducing farmers to techniques that prevent soil erosion, reduce the use of harmful pesticides, and implementing the composting methods to help replenish the soil. The teams of students from both agriculture and medical programs also worked together to develop appropriate education strategies for nutrition, with new programs to support orphaned children; and to create opportunities that provide emotional and financial support to families and communities affected by disease and environmental stress on food production.
