Its a status we enjoyed for most of the last century and now have entirely lost. In 2015 we were eleven percent below the national average in per capita income.What most distinguishes successful areas from Michigan is their concentration of talent, where talent is defined as a combination of knowledge, creativity, and entrepreneurship. In a flattening world where work can increasingly be done anyplace by anybody, the places with the greatest concentrations of talent win.

As Founder and President of ThinkStretch LLC, I led this education innovation company focused on reducing the impact of summer learning losses on student achievement until its successful sale in 2020..The award winning ThinkStretch Summer Learning Program is a CCSS based, take-home summer skill review program. ThinkStretch engages families, students, and schools with a kick off assembly for students, grade-specific workbook for each student, a parent education night plus a Parent Guide to Summer for every family, and fall appreciation medals for every student completed workbook.ThinkStretch also provides staff development and strategic services for stemming the up to 2.6 months of learning students lose over the summer. The Summer Learning Program product is priced to involve a full school at $15 a student, with discounts available for large schools and under resourced schools.

We create brighter futures by offering educational opportunities to children and youth, supportive housing stabilization services for adults and families, and positive community building activities for neighborhoods.I am proud to serve as a Director on the Board of Community Action Network.

The Great Start Collaborative is a coalition of executive level community members focused on improving the well being of children from birth through age 6.

As a publicly elected trustee, I served to provide the highest quality education to the students of Ann Arbor Public School District within the fiscal and legislative constraints of the State of Michigan.Ann Arbor Public Schools serves over 17,000 students with an annual budget of approximately $220 million.

Appointed by Governor Granholm, I served on the council to advise on collaborative efforts to coordinate, improve, and expand existing early learning programs and services, including making use of existing reports, research and planning efforts. The focus of the Council’s advice pertains to the Child Care and Early Education component of the Great Start initiative.
