Outside Sales Executive -- Neighbors Of Andover
My role as Outside Sales Executive was to connect the families in my town with the area businesses in a beautifully-illustrated highly-professional monthly magazine -- bringing people together to build community pride, trust, strength, and compassion.
Senior Grants Manager
I administered the national grants program created by the late Dana Reeve that supports crucial initiatives that help to meet specific needs of people living with paralysis and mobility impairments (caused by spinal cord injury and other conditions). I worked closely with Dana in the early years of the Quality of Life grants program, and after her passing, built programs and processes that were replicated by other grant makers, including the State of New Mexico, at least four foundations, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living. I facilitated over 3,000 grants totalling over $24 million to organizations across and beyond the USA. In 2017 I produced a Toolkit for Building Accessible Community Playgrounds.Other positions held included: Quality of Life Grants Director, Quality of Life Grants Coordinator, Paralysis Resource Center Information Specialist, Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations, Associate Director of Development, and Development Associate. My development work focused on writing foundation grant proposals and reports, managing gift entry and acknowledgement, processing gifts of stock and bequests, managing employee giving programs and matching gifts, donor prospect research, managing annual fund campaigns, and assisting with special events. I wrote special letters, speeches and other pieces for the late Christopher Reeve at his request. In 2001 I wrote and coordinated the submission of the original application to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center. While Christopher was alive, I was the recording secretary for the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.
Development Associate
As part of a two-person development team, I helped with all aspects of fund raising for this school for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities: managed gift entry and acknowledgement process, wrote foundation and corporate grant proposals, managed stewardship of major donors, supported development committee of the board of directors, planned and executed varied successful special events, managed volunteer auxiliary committee. Volunteered to feed students at lunchtime and volunteered at Special Olympics. Founding fund raiser for Matheny Arts Access, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018.
Office Manager
In a one-person office in this small modern Orthodox synagogue, I managed correspondence, handled gift acknowledgement, typed sermons, handled membership dues, High Holy Day tickets, religious school tuition, facility rentals, accounts payable, created and mailed newsletters, created special bulletins, managed Center's calendar, and prepared federal and state tax returns. I migrated the office from manual bookkeeping and check processing to Quicken.
Classroom Assistant For Students With Disabilities
I assisted students with disabilities in their classes by taking class notes, facilitating test taking, and helping with library research. Most students used wheelchairs for mobility and had limited or no hand function, and two students had visual impairments. One of my students, Carrie, was spinal cord injured at 18 years old and she became one of my closest friends, long before Christopher Reeve was injured. She literally changed the trajectory of my life.
