Donna Smith currently works in the federal government as a Director of Evaluation at Employment Social Development Canada responsible for managing 4 teams evaluating old age security, disability, apprenticeship, student loans, and any program across Canada that suppprts vulnerable populations. In her former work as a Senior Evaluation Advisor at Public Safety canada, she managed contracted evaluation teams that conduct rigorous evaluations of crime prevention programs. Donna provided professional evaluation research advice to government agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGO's) on a daily basis. She has 15 years of professional research and evaluation experience having worked in the areas of policy research and evaluation with the City of Toronto, Corrections Canada and the Cabinet Office with the Government of Jamaica. She has worked as an evaluation specialist on international crime prevention projects sponsored by the Department for International Development and the Inter-American Development Bank. This experience working at the federal, city, and international level provides enough diversity to appeal to an international audience. Donna has conducted evaluation and research studies using a variety of approaches including quasi-experimental designs, qualitative techniques, performance measure strategies, single site repeated measures designs and other approaches typically used in the social sector.She has provided workshops and training in evaluation, logic model development, evidence-based decision making and evaluation planning for over 10 years. Donna also has several years of experience designing workshops and "training the trainer" modules to help build evaluation capacity in government, NGO's and private business. This experience has allowed her to gain knowledge about common challenges that plague non-experts.
