About Donna Talarico
I craft compelling, original content to help higher education institutions meet enrollment, retention, engagement, and fundraising goals. I help colleges and universities bring their mission to life through powerful and thoughtful storytelling, whether it's fresh, user-friendly copy for a website redevelopment project, long-form SEO blogging, or an in-depth, pull-at-your-heartstrings cover/feature package for an alumni magazine. It's not just about creating content; it's about creating the right content -- and also about making that content accessible to all users through solid UX. I also focus on content strategy in higher education: qualitative content audits, web governance plans, web content style guides, UX writing (such as microcopy), and content training. Outside of higher education, I also create strategic editorial plans and vibrant copy for select B2B companies (healthcare services management and fintech, for example), with a goal of turning visitors into customers, and customers into influencers. ***I offer 26+ years of experience in print and broadcast media, integrated marketing and communications, social media, content strategy, UX writing and strategy, SaaS sales, promotions, teaching, speaking, and writing. Most recently, prior to becoming an independent contractor, I was an award-winning director of integrated communications in higher education. Today, as an independent contractor in content strategy/content marketing/content writing and UX, my experiences in various industries come together in happy harmony to serve a variety of clients (primarily digital agencies serving the higher ed market), as well as in supporting and informing my creative and entrepreneurial endeavors which include running a creative nonfiction literary journal and its small press and creative nonfiction writing conference. ***I absolutely love sharing knowledge with others and learning from everyone I meet through blogging, personal meetings, conversing on "the socials", and attending/presenting at industry events and conferences, including HighEdWeb, WP Campus, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), CUPRAP, Association of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), and the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP).
Listed skills include Blogging, Copywriting, Creative Writing, Social Media, and 35 others.

Adjunct Faculty - Creative Writing Residency Mfa Faculty For Marketing & Publishing
CurrentCreative Writing: Beginning in the June 2016 residency, I joined the low-residency graduate creative writing program as a social media/content marketing/author branding consultant. In addition to offering a branding workshop during the residency, I provide individual consultations during residency and project semesters, to students and faculty members about how to leverage technology and audience engagement to build their brands and promote their work. Communication Studies: In the spring 2010 semester, I developed and taught a newly created class, Social Media & PR, where through discussion, readings, demos, guest speakers, and interactive projects students learned how then-emerging social media technologies have changed the landscape of public relations and marketing, and learned to connect the dots from these new tools to traditional theory and practices. The class, innovative for its time, was highly rated as noted in student satisfaction survey.(Note: I did not want to list this position twice, so please note the duration is not accurate; I held this position in the spring semester of 2010, and then began a new role in 2016.)
