I am a passionate advocate for justice and fairness at the Georgia Public Defender Council. In my work I oversee the community relations and media outreach of the council. I also coordinate with the GPDC staff to provide accurate and timely information to the public and the press. I use my experience in journalism and communications, having worked as a reporter and editor at various news outlets, to promote the mission and vision of the Georgia Public Defender Council, which is to ensure that every person accused of a crime has access to effective legal representation.The Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC) is an independent agency within the state's executive branch that provides oversight of public defense services in the state. The GPDC operates through six divisions: central office, appellate division, circuit offices, capital defender, conflict defender, and training division. The GPDC also appoints and removes chief defenders, establishes qualifications and training requirements for public defenders, and monitors and evaluates public defense services.Georgia's public defender system also relies on local funding and administration for some of its 44 circuit offices across the state at which the GDPC provides public defense services at the trial level.

As the media and community relations director for the Diocese of Atlanta I am responsible for communicating the news and events of the diocese to the public, as well as fostering positive relationships with the media and other organizations. I help parishes and ministries with their own communication strategies and media outreach. I am passionate about sharing the stories of how God is working in and through the Episcopal Church in Middle and North Georgia.It is my privilege to present the work of the Episcopal Church to the world. I am honored to make known the role of The Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta as Jesus' hands and feet in middle and north Georgia. To introduce the work of the people of the Diocese's 120 worshiping communities who are drawing the circle wider to include all who seek a fuller spiritual life.

Social Media Matters is a multi-media, print - online - video, communications firm. We augment client's traditional media and public relations by instituting metrics-driven social media strategies. We also provide clients with a better understanding of how social media coordinates and enhances their overall public relations effort.

Responsible for: Managing the nonprofit's brand development, web site traffic growth, web site ROI and revenue; conducting media relations work with traditional and new media for story placement; evaluating and developing existing and potential owned electronic and print media; developing community relations strategy to include partnerships with government, civic and faith organizations; increasing outreach to demographic groups and geographic locations; providing marketing support, including conducting surveys of potential and existing constituents, developing programs to initiate, increase and maintain engagement with these constituents and efforts to evaluate and adjust ongoing marketing efforts.

Beginning in 2007 I connected the court with the world by using Facebook, twitter, Linkedin and BlogSpot to manage media and public relations, customer service, and events for the Superior Court of Fulton County. I advised the Court’s Judges, Administrator, Department Managers, and related Court organizations on public relations matters, promotional materials and news dissemination.

Wrote wire stories for use by CNN from direct reporting and rewrite of information from bureaus and stringers worldwide.

Wrote and edited news and managed news bureaus during nearly 14 years at the AJC. As a reporter I covered crime and the justice system and after 9/11 - terrorism.
