• Prepared sample slides with 0.1 micron silica beads, and used a 637nm laser to trap them over a range of laser power from 5-140mW.• Used ImageJ image analysis software to measure Brownian motion in order to calculate kinetic energy required to keep a bead trapped in relation to laser power.• Calculated the trap strength with the use of a function generator and PZT actuator to shift the slide back and forth. The frequency the trap failed was used to calculate the Stokes drag force, which was in relation to laser power.

• Studied theoretical model of electron scattering by writing Python code to numerically solve the Schrodinger equation in order to calculate the scattering cross-section of free electrons over a range of velocities, and different atomic energy potentials.• Results were compared with experimental data. Code worked extremely well for hydrogen, but larger elements like helium required more accurate energy potential functions.
