I am now pursuing my passion to research and write about military aviation, specifically focusing on the role of the Royal Australian Air Force in World war Two.My first book is about the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation's Boomerang fighter. The Boomerang has a unique place in Australian aviation history, being the nation's only home designed, produced and operated fighter aircraft. At EPA, I project managed the development of urban stormwater management guidance that reflects current science and regulatory practice. This project led to the publication by EPA Victoria of updated urban stormwater guidance that reflects current science: https://www.epa.vic.gov.au/about-epa/publications/1739-1 This guidance brings together science, technology, economics and community values, and will help to build the sustainable future we are all seeking.A nice follow up to my research at the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities.

Was a member of a team at DELWP, identifying options to improve management of stormwater runoff from industrial and commercial sites, via the statutory planning system. Great synergy with my research! I feel very fortunate to have been able to examine sustainable urban water management from the research and public policy perspectives.

My PhD project examined how planning regulation in Australian jurisdictions affects the implementation of water sensitive urban design practices. Australian governments believe planning laws can link the urban water cycle and urban planning, to improve the liveability of our cities and protect water resources, such as rainwater, stormwater, groundwater and urban waterways. This thesis examined that assumption via empirical research. Planning laws were found to focus on some parts of the urban water cycle, but not others. I lead EPA’s onsite wastewater management team. I expanded EPA’s onsite wastewater management activities from a narrow approvals process into a more broad-ranging program, which included building capacity in EPA, building relations with stakeholders such as local government and the Australian Institute of Environmental Health and reviewing the Septic Tanks Code of Practice. I also led the development of planning requirements for onsite wastewater management that were incorporated in Victorian Government environment protection policy.
