Permanent Board Member - Full Time 7 Year TermNational Energy Board - Government Of Canada 2013 - 2014The National Energy Board (NEB) is an independent federal regulator whose purpose is to promote safety and security, environmental protection and efficient infrastructure and markets in the Canadian public interest within the mandate set by Parliament for regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade. Appointed by Canada's Prime Minister through Governor in Council, I served as full-time Board member of the NEB adjudicating on the approval or rejection of Canadian and international oil and natural gas pipelines, associated infrastructure including maritime terminals, off-shore exploration and powerlines. Projects were evaluated based on economic, environmental, safety and social considerations. The work also involved working on quasi-judicial panels including for the TransMountain pipeline expansion project and establishing polices and procedures for pipeline industry abandonment and decommissioning. Worked with a staff of 450 professionals including engineers, ecologists, social scientists and communications teams. Additional responsibilities included testifying before Parliament, extensive stakeholder engagement including with Aboriginal peoples and through print and electronic media.
