Doreen’s practice is focused in the areas of immunology, molecular biology, chemistry, drug discovery, genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and medical devices. She counsels clients in strategic patent and trademark prosecution and enforcement internationally, as well as in the US. Doreen advises clients on patentability, patent validity, freedom-to-operate and contested matters. She has drafted and negotiated license agreements, technology transfer agreements, consulting and confidentiality agreements. Doreen is a Past-President of the Boston Patent Law Association. She has co-written an Amicus Brief for the case LabCorp v. Metabolite Laboratories, heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. She has authored “Copyright for Innovative Biotechnological Research: An Attractive Alternative to Patent or Trade Secret Protection”, 5 High Tech. Law Journal 75 (1990). Doreen is a member of the ABA, AIPLA, LES and AUTM. Doreen has been voted a Massachusetts Super Lawyer 2004 through 2007 and Super Lawyer Corporate Counsel in 2008. Doreen is honored to have been named a Best Lawyer in the practice of patent law for three years in a row in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 editions of The Best Lawyers in America®. Doreen graduated from the University of San Diego Law School and has a B.S. in Medical Technology from Marquette University. Doreen had extensive university and industrial research experience in the areas of clinical chemistry, protein chemistry, immunology and metabolic disorders. She developed immunoassay diagnostics for two pharmaceutical companies. She has co-authored six scientific publications and is a co-inventor on a U.S. patent covering an immunodiagnostic assay. Doreen has worked as a marketing specialist for an immunodiagnostic company.Doreen is a registered US Patent Attorney and licensed to practice in California and Massachusetts.
