About Dorianis Mercedes Pérez, Ph.D.

I'm a first-generation college student born and raised in New York and Dominican Republic. I'm currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at LANL. My background is in Applied Mathematics and Computational Science and I hold degrees in Forensic Science. My most recent research experience is in computational fluid dynamics, specifically modeling wind and turbulence over forest canopies for wildfire applications. I've also worked on cloud modeling - implementing a Lagrangian Cloud Model in an atmospheric hydrodynamics code to represent microphysical processes in the development of pyrocumulonimbus (pyroCb) clouds. I am an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Physical Sciences at Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) where I've taught Algebra, Calculus 1, and Intro to Statistics. I am also a Project Assistant for The Aspen Institute, a non-profit committed to realizing a free, just, and equitable society, where I work with various youth initiatives.
