Doris Johnson-Brown has always shown determination when facing difficult challenges in her life.Joining the Jersey City police department in 1995, she has patrolled in the second busiest precinct in the state. It was during some of the many encounters within the community that she decided to take the negative mindset they had of officers and change them to make a positive difference.She began this journey by getting involved with the public and private schools, teaching children about safety and responsibility. Working with seniors to develop safety programs to arm them with protection from scammers. Working with single mothers, displaced families and the homeless to locate resources or provide an ear and shoulder to understand what they are going through. Building trust with young adults by showing them there is hope for the future. Working hand in hand with different religious groups and other organizations to promote understanding, tolerance, and acceptance. Through these various interactions, she educated herself on different cultures in the diverse communities surrounding the neighborhoods in the areas she worked.After being promoted to Police Detective, she started the Community Uplifting Project, a not for profit that focused on addressing the social needs of Jersey City and surrounding communities. Including homelessness, poverty, literacy and the care of children and seniors.July 2016, she became the Vice President of the Jersey City Martin Luther King Parade Committee, Inc. December 2016, through her direction and working with Welcome Baptist Church leaders, Rev. and Minister Bailey, Bountiful Blessings Food Pantry and Life Resource Center is scheduled to be opened.Doris will also tell you there is work to be done and by moving strategically and methodically, you can overcome any obstacles in your path.
