This is my greatest pleasure joining Marco Polo Hotel Group, I think I am joining them at a right time as they are expanding in hardware and software like the upcoming Murray Building re-sculpturing to suits the new brand 'Niccolo' which make me feel proud to work in this organisation. After 11 years in China, I finally returned home, Hong Kong. Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is a property over 26 years with several challenges and I have overcame and changed quite a lot, built up team spirit and being respected by colleagues, that's the greatest satisfaction.

Being on a Director of Finance position for over 8 years and with Hyatt totally over 18 years, I had been worked in many of the Hyatt hotels and in different locations eg. 10 years in China included Shanghai, Beijing and now in Shenzhen. Before promoted as a DOF, I used to travel among Asia Pacific hotels (Delhi, Seoul, Oasaka, Jakata, Taipei and many others) to preform my internal auditor role as well as Finance System Specialist.Two year ago seconded to Shenzhen and continue to hold the DOF position and performing typical DOF role, in charging of Finance, IS and Cashier with a team of 36 employees. Beside taking care of hotel's all financial aspects, budgeting and operational advise with policies and procedures, I also handling the full book for our Corporate Sales office which located out of hotel and acting as an adviser to an opening new brand "Hyatt Place" flagship hotel in Dongmen, Shenzhen.

Same responsibilities as current DOF position in Shenzhen. However, been worked in a sizable hotel with 825 rooms and 9 outlets, I gained many valuable experience of how to maintain a profitable bottom line during financial crisis in 2008 & 2009. In 2008 Olympic month, the average daily room rate was as high as CNY12,000 and generated extra CNY10 million in one month to normal month which rarely happened again in life time.

Due to familiar with the group's finance system and good IT mind, I had been elected to conduct installation of new system as well as training of new accounting standard. I had been traveled to Seoul, Osaka, Jojakata, Jakata, Taipei, Kutan in Malaysia, Jeju island, etc.

Although I was just an Assistant, I already in charged of the entire Finance department as well as F&B Cashier team. I was taking care of daily operation issues within operating departments beside the ordinary accounting works.

Shanghai City, China

The time joined GH Shanghai was prior to hotel opening. There was my first time involved in new hotel opening, it was a great experience, not only long hour of work but the pressure of meeting deadline. During the years in Shanghai, another great experience was prepared and co-ordinated for the 2000 millenium which was a busy year-end in preparing all the precaution for all computer systems.

No Base And On Road

Being an internal auditor of the group, I had been conducted internal audit in Tianjin, Dehli, Taipei, Osaka and Xian. After 18 month of Controller Trainee program then immediately being put on road to conduct internal audit. It was a valuable experience not only applying the corporate requirement to the hotels but how to deal with experience DOF and GM was not an easy job.

One and a half year of training program was the most successful one. Due to my willing to learn and hard working attitude, I learnt all sections and each positions job responsibilities and procedures. Also had a great opportunity involving in individual projects eg. to setup and contributed ideas to develop the payroll system written by Fox Pro system.

Only worked for less than a year, with my positive, can do, willing to learn and helpful attitude, quickly being nominated to entre the Controller Trainee program. The time I was a Payroll Master, I shown my ability in handling all the works independently and always offered help for other colleagues in order to learn more of other jobs.
