I am VP, Editor-in-Chief of Simon Element, Simon & Schuster’s destination for illustrated and practical non-fiction in growth areas: cooking, health + wellness, personal development, design + organizing, pop culture. Previously, I was the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher at Clarkson Potter, Penguin Random House’s 100-title, market-dominant lifestyle imprint.Nimble and visual, I have 20+ years of business leadership: expertise in long-tail sales, powering mega-bestsellers, identifying hitmakers, and developing next-gen brands. I grew up in Big Five publishing, but I’m scrappy. As VP, Editor-in-Chief, I am a member of the executive team at Simon Element. Focused on topics foundational to how we live, Element’s books inform and inspire. They are visually dynamic. We publish in ascendant categories: health and wellness, cooking, home design, behavioral psychology, and relationships. Our authors are original thinkers with deep expertise. The inaugural and forthcoming lists include KC Davis, author of How to Keep House While Drowning, Erin Gates, whose Elements of Style is a seminal work; Jesse Inchauspe, internationally bestselling author of The Glucose Revolution; Phil Rosenthal, and Noom. In 2022, Simon Element landed more than fifty high-profile projects, balanced among potential bestsellers, award-winners, and breakout books. I acquired Radhi Shetty’s inspiring and wide-ranging vegan cookbook; definitive cookbooks from King Arthur Baking; design luminary Nate Berkus's expansive home book; James Beard-nominated Jerrelle Guy’s We Fancy; Kiki Nelson’s Plantifully Lean; a groundbreaking book about the effects of hormones on “healthspan” by Elizabeth Poynor, and a cookbook by self-taught home cook and social media personality Diane Morrisey. As SVP, Editor-in-chief of Clarkson Potter, I oversaw a publishing program of legendary authors and next-gen mega bestsellers. My team and I delivered double digit revenue gains and brought new renown to the imprint as the industry leader. Clarkson Potter’s authors include Ina Garten, Martha Stewart, Gina Homolka; Claire Saffitz, Tieghan Gerard, James Beard-Award winner Toni Tipton Martin, Chrissy Teigen, Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin of the Home Edit. I edited New York Times food columnist and multiple award-winner Melissa Clark and Alison Roman, among dozens of others. Good ideas and exceptional quality rewarded us with consumer resonance.Connect with me at dorisacooper@gmail.com
