Software Engineer in Core Systems - Kernel Applications Team, L4• Shipped performance and security enhancements to Facebook’s network block device infrastructure, a data-storage layer backing Facebook’s core database servers.• Led the effort to utilize Linux’s kernel TLS, allowing in-flight encryption of network block device traffic while eliminating unnecessary copies between user-space and kernel-space.• Found and patched bugs in Linux’s kernel TLS implementation, merged my work into upstream Linux - tinyurl.com/doron-linux• 20% project: Utilized new x86 SIMD instruction to improve cache hit rate of the concurrent hash map in Facebook’s C++ library.

Designed and built a distributed, multi-threaded web-crawler written in Java. The crawler could simultaneously crawl over 100 domains (highest tested) while respecting a politeness delay between successive requests to the same domain. The crawler could also interleave tasks from multiple jobs, each with unique behavior specified in a JSON file.

Developed code in Python and Java to create counterbalanced stimulus sets as well as perform statistical analyses of brain image data.Played active role in experimental design of fMRI studies examining the influence of high-level concepts on neural activation patterns in the early visual areas - a region of the brain previously thought to only encode low-level visual patterns. Co-author of manuscript submitted to the Journal of Neuroscience, "Similarity of meaning modulates neural similarity within extrastriate cortex," describing the effects of meaning on neural representation in the visual areas, as well as the first direct, fMRI evidence of this phenomenon.
