I am a third-year student at UC Berkeley majoring in Legal Studies in the hopes of furthering my passion for constitutional law, specifically surrounding reproductive rights and gender equality, and my ability to advocate for those whose lives have been implicated by the carceral state. I am pursuing a double major in American Studies with a self-designed concentration exploring the potential sources of an "American Apocalypse" through the lens of culture, media, and our nation's current sociopolitical state.Through teaching an environmental justice curriculum to elementary and middle schoolers in the East Bay and facilitating a course for UC Berkeley undergraduate students that trains them to do the same, I aim to instill hope in the next generation of climate advocates by providing them with the information and resources they need. As a lecturer of this class, I teach students to brainstorm how to transform complex information surrounding climate change and environmental injustice into accessible and digestible for young students, particularly those in the Bay Area who endure the consequences of pollution and urban life on a daily basis. As a firm believer in the power of youth and the importance of instilling creativity and critical thinking skills, I spend my weekends working at a children's art lab that repurposes reused and natural materials. With extensive experience in childcare, I also work as a nanny for a 3-year-old preschooler. Last summer, I cared for two to five-year-olds at the California Alumni Association family camp, Lair of the Golden Bear, facilitating nature-based arts and crafts, storytelling, music activities, and recreational play in the beautiful Sierra Nevadas. This summer, I returned to the Lair as an Assistant Program Director specializing in Guest Relations.I am a determined activist who uses broadcast and digital journalism as a means of promoting climate solutions and positive, empowering media representation of women. With experience in podcasting and interviewing, women-centered leadership, and organized community engagement, I plan to pursue a career in investigative journalism, science communication, government, or law.
