Starting in basic insurance defense/tort law - including auto insurance claims, homeowner claims, commercial claims, and workers' compensation - I built a broad base of property & casualty knowledge and experience. I transitioned into an increased focus on appeals, writs, and complex motions. I also began my in-depth work in PIP and medical-legal issues, which continues today as the industry faces an ever-increasing level of fraud and the challenges of extreme litigation-related medical expenses. Seeking diversity and variety in both my appellate skills and my knowledge base, I also began representing families in divorce, custody, domestic violence and dependency matters. As a result, my foundation expanded to include the legal rights surrounding mental health, substance abuse, and constitutional rights issues. I took positions that offered nursing home defense litigation, medical malpractice litigation, civil rights/1983 actions, and an ever-increasing knowledge of the insurance industry. This diversity and breadth enables me to tackle appeals and litigation in almost every civil field. It provides insight and ideas that support innovative arguments, relying on non-traditional areas of the law to show courts how my clients' position fits in the big picture and the public policy. My success in both the trial and appellate courts is a testament to how well it works. Throughout my 23 years of practice, I have also remained involved in professionalism and industry activities, serving on grievance committees, bar rules committees, and boards for a variety of legal related organizations.
