I coordinated all aspects of care for individuals with general surgery health concerns. This included documenting plans, placing orders, working in a team environment, updating patients and families, and working alongside nursing staff.I worked 80+ hours a week to ensure that individuals had what they needed before and after surgery.I worked on quality improvement by optimizing the use of sequential compression devices in the clinical setting.

The Diversity in Education Blog provided a venue for Mayo Clinic personnel to share unique views related to their experiences.I had the privilege of reviewing submissions and offered suggestions to improve the reception of shared experiences.I value improving the written communication skills of myself and others.

As the first Director, I performed tasks that ensured the longevity of the program including but not limited to: securing funding from sponsoring institutions, recruiting and training new leaders, designing and executing research efforts, performing administrative tasks, establishing and maintaining relationships with liaisons, and developing programming for participants. I started as a co-leader and was chosen as Director because of my innovation and the work I did beyond what was expected to improve the curriculum for early trainees.I valued the opportunity to design and execute a project with Pre-Med Insight that highlights the challenges of financially disadvantaged and minority individuals interested in medical careers.This qualitative study was completed over the course of 5 years and incorporated the input of various teams. I was trained to respond to calls from people in crisis, including those who are suicidal.Regularly speaking with people in crisis increased my ability to build relationships with new people and taught me to be reliably composed in any circumstance.
