At age 7, in a dimly lit basement, my curiosity got the best of me. I snuck a few tools from the shed and dismantled the sump pump, because I was curious as to how it worked. A few choice words were spoken when I showed my stepfather what I had done. Working in the shadow of the large man, the pile of parts slowly became a working pump again. Looking back, I had a quizzical nature coupled with a determination to learn. Additionally, I had the benefit of my stepdad’s willingness to teach. His methods were coarse, tone was stern, and he was also illiterate. Despite all of that he was the greatest mentor I could have had growing up. His teaching methods stoked my desire to perform at a very tender age. High school offered many skilled trades classes, and I excelled in every mechanical and technical class that was available. As a 17-year-old Marine I began working on CH-46 helicopters then earned my FAA A&P Certificate 3 years later.Being a perfectionist by nature the USMC and aircraft maintenance was a perfect fit for me. After my service I accepted a job in Nome, Alaska; with wide eyes I set out for more adventure. I fell in love with the land and the people in the remote villages of Alaska and worked hard to ensure their safety and customer satisfaction.Advancing through Manager, Asst. DOM, V.P. of QA, or DOM for several companies. My success is owed to previous supervisors that saw value in me while passing on their knowledge. I learned from leaders, sought knowledge on my own, and endeavor to perform to perfection. Eventually I moved past turning wrenches to leading management teams, focusing on customer satisfaction, safety & efficiency. Currently I serve as V.P. of Maintenance for Grant Aviation, the largest 135 Operator in Alaska. Developing Maintenance Resource Management is crucial, and I strive to scope maintenance operations to fit Company needs and resources. This includes data collection and analysis, inventory management, quality, and production measurement and improvement.One operator increased revenue flight hours by 63% within 18 months of my working with the company. This was a result of increased aircraft availability achieved by gaining efficiencies within the maintenance department.
