  I have had the pleasure of working with Herky at the fall RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) for the past 5 years. Herky is the District Chair and I have been an adult leader and the Medicine Hat Rotary Club coordinator. RYPEN is program that helps youth aged 13 to 18 develop confidence, leadership and self belief through a series of group & team building activities. As District Chair, Herky has organized and coordinated this this camp for the past 10 to 12 years. Each year, he recruits the youth and adult leaders, oversees the candidate registration and group selection. Then runs the annual 4 day camp. Herky has a leadership style that makes everyone at camp feel welcomed and special. He can relate to and dealing with the 50 to 60 participants and seems to draw the best of of all participants, by knowing who to choose for various tasks. In addition, he has the ability to deal with any situation that may arise in a calm & fair manner. I feel very fortunate to have gotten to know Herky through RYPEN and now consider him a friend, rather than just a Rotary colleague.
