Doug's particular areas of expertise lie in skills and employment forecasting, labour productivity in construction and sustainability assessment of the built environment in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. He also has experience in whole life costing and risk management. His expertise in labour forecasting in construction has resulted in the development of the the Labour Forecasting Tool for CITB. This web-based tool allows a high level estimate of the number of jobs created in 28 construction occupations given no more than the project's type, duration, start date and value. Doug has managed the development of two other pieces of software for the construction industry: The final stages of the development of Whole Life Cost Evaluator – a novel, powerful and flexible whole life costing software tool; and secondly the Productivity Benchmarking Tool – a web-based portal through which contractors can enter and benchmark their productivity.His PhD, undertaken in the Construction Management Research Unit at the University of Dundee examined the risks associated with the sustainability assessment of housing. He has extensive experience in managing research and development projects and is currently the project manager for a €400,000 EU-funded project to transfer knowledge in sustainability assessment amongst six partner countries.
