As systems administrator for Borden Dairy Company I am responsible for but not limited to maintaining, monitoring and the availability of one 750 Power7 and two system i570 machines 16 partitions in total 24/7. Due to the number of partitions most being production I have written programs to assist with monitoring, alerting via email and text messaging, to jobs in (MSGW) message wait status, disk drives in FAILED status, JOBQ depth, long running JOB(s), JOB(s) encountering object lock’s and DASD percentage reaching a predefined value. In addition to alerting via email and text messaging I have also written a program that writes to SYSLOG as an attempt to move forward with centralized monitoring. Day to Day tasks include reviewing BRMS backup logs, iTera check lists, security, user profile maintenance and overall system health. Current projects include the migration of production data to a recently acquired 750 Power7 machine, designing a method of querying Active Directory from the iSeries in order to maintain a current list of 400 users email addresses, single sign-on (currently working on test partitions) and centralized monitoring. Skills include operations management, troubleshooting /problem solving/facilitating resolution of issues, process improvement, automation, application support and analysis, systems analysis, CL scripting.
