Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works

This role was based on site at Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Plant. The project involves the installation of two new Combine Heat & Power (CHP) Engines, two new Diesel Engines and the upgrade of the plant's biogas system. The work involved being an interface between the office based design team and the site based labourers. Roles included:- Detailed meeting minutes- Taking site measurements- Ensuring documentation is up to Thames Water and British Standards- Researching, choosing, and interfacing with suitable subcontractors- Streamlining the communication process between the designers, client and subcontractors.- A long investigation into the government's replacement of the current Renewable Obligation Certificates scheme, and the affect its replacement will have on the financial feasibility of the project.

Eight2O is a new entitiy between eight different organisations (for which Costain is a member) that is responsible for upgrading the infrastructure for Thames Water between 2015-2020. As this was the early days of this organisation, most of the work was focused on pricing up possible projects and deciding on their feasibility. Upon me joining the team had no experience using Excel's many in built functions. My role was to help streamline the entire estimating process by creating dynamic spreadsheets utilising things like Pivot Tables. I also examined electrical drawings provided by our designers and compared them with the prices given to insure they costed for all the correct components.

This site role was part of the nationwide Smart Motorways Scheme. It was on the M1 between J28-31. The project involved the transition of the hard shoulder to a permanent running lane. This required the reinforcement of said hard shoulder, as well as a revamp to the electrical infrastructure of the motorways in order to more accurately detect the flow of moving traffic and more clearly notify drivers via large LCD display screens. Roles included:- Setting Out- Database Creation & Management- Pressure Testing Cable Ducts- Investigating Duct Installation Efficiency- Tracking project progress- Writing & Issuing RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements)- General Roadside Verge Works

London Power Tunnel, Haringey, London, United Kingdom

This site role was part of the London Power Tunnels Project, a scheme with National Grid as the client, that involved the construction of 32km of tunnels between 20m and 60m deep below London. The tunnels were to carry high voltage electricity cables (400V) between substations throughout London, providing both a higher capacity and more resilient electrical infrastructure. The tunnelling was undertaken using 4m diameter Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM). Roles included:- Stock Management- Reviewing Safety Incidents- Statistical Analysis to Increase TBM Efficiency
