Doug Maughan Work Experience Details
  • Zoe Medical (Medical Patient Monitor Manufacturer)
    Senior Manufacturing Technician
Zoe Medical (Medical Patient Monitor Manufacturer) Aug 2010 - Present
    Topsfield, Ma
I work in the production area, across all product lines, performing multiple tasks. When creating new products, I’m the go to person used to trouble shoot the designs.I’ve suggested various improvements that have been incorporated into the company’s products. I have also recognized multiple design problems and helped develop solutions for them. I created, using PowerPoint, detailed and illustrated production procedures used as work instructions for both assembly and testing. I’ve also been responsible for training of manufacturing personnel.
  • Cadd Edge (Solidworks Reseller)
    Applications Engineer
    Cadd Edge (Solidworks Reseller) 2008 - 2010
    Londonderry, Nh
I helped SolidWorks re-seller’s clientele solve design problems. I analyzed the steps taken in creating their designs, identifying the steps that were causing problems and suggesting alternative approaches to achieve the desired results. I also identified problems clients were having with SolidWorks as being caused by software bugs, then assisted them in finding workarounds, and submitted the problems to SolidWorks for resolution.I taught both beginner and advanced SolidWorks courses on many different topics. I instructed students in how to use different approaches and tools to create better product designs. Some subtopics in these courses included GD&T, BOMs, configurations in both parts and assembles, design tables, sweeps, lofts, use and creation of design library features and how to go about repairing SolidWorks computer models that have errors.
  • Timberland
    3D Technology Specialist
    Timberland 2000 - 2007
    Stratham, Nh
I used SolidWorks to create 3-D computer models of complex geometric shapes for use on shoe outsoles. I converted imported IGES files (generic 3D files) to SolidWorks files from computer models received from international design team created with a different software program. I have also exported SolidWorks files in STL file format for 3 D Printing and used Z-Corp software to print color 3-D prototypes of these STL files for design evaluation to help determine final designs for products. I have also repaired corrupt imported STL files so they could be printed. I used a laser scanner and Geomagic software to take 3-D scans of lasts (foot forms) to create a last library for use in designing shoes to aid in creating accurate designs. I have also used Geomagic software to convert 3D scans into SolidWorks files. Import duty rates can vary greatly depending on the percentage of leather, textile and rubber/plastic a shoe has. I developed a method for using 3-D scanning to measure these percentages on early prototypes so changes could be made to final designs to get the cheaper rate. I created AutoCAD drawings of shoe outsoles from designers’ hand sketches and Illustrator artwork. I supported design teams, reviewing mold drawings and making corrections to comply with engineering specifications. I worked with design teams to create new products to meet identified needs. I provided CAD support, ideas and feedback on projects from inception through manufacturing. I wrote a LISP routine to automatically update info in imported files to comply with manufacturers’ standards which saved the company a lot of time.
