Upon graduating from the University of Alberta in the late 1970’s, I worked in the oil industry as a consultant geologist for many years. Seeking to have a closer to home lifestyle, my profession gradually evolved into the realm of finance which has been my area of work and expertise for approximately eighteen years now. A position with the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) acted as the foundation. I had worked as a business consultant to BDC for a few years when the current manager asked if I wanted to put forth an application for the position of commercial lender. It turned out to be a great opportunity as they provided extensive in-house training throughout my five year tenure. After an executive decision was made that virtually closed the local BDC branch, I opted to stay in Nanaimo and gained employment as a Business Manger that involved primarily personal finance. As it happens I am now able to utilize the two very different skill sets in my most recent challenge working with Dominion Lending Centre (DLC) as a Mortgage Specialist. DLC is one of the premier organizations of its kind in Canada today. Most people will recognize and affiliate the name to personal residential mortgages which is the backbone of their business but they offer much much more as one may discern from the “Lending “component of their name. There are commercial mortgage opportunities as well as commercial Leasing opportunities. Through DLC I am able to arrange a wide range leases including equipment, technology, furniture, hospital, manufacturing and industrial equipment… almost limitless possibilities.Finance is more complex now than at any other time in history. Competition in the marketplace is extensive as well. A great deal of my time is utilized gaining knowledge and information on various credit sources and products.
