I aspire to contribute significantly to the enhancement and use of research and innovation for the benefit of people and society in the United States and globally.I am a recognized authority on decarbonizing the global energy system and the environmental and health consequences of energy production and use. I was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2013 for “distinguished contributions to physical chemistry and molecular spectroscopy and for building a world-class chemistry organization at the US Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory”. I am currently Board Chair of Carbon Washington, a non-profit focused on effective, efficient, and equitable climate solutions with a vision for net-zero carbon emissions in Washington and a prosperous, healthy future for all. At Carbon Washington we are committed to delivering the significant financial resources - public and private - to support the transition to a clean energy economy. Previously, as Associate Laboratory Director at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, I lead and was responsible for the growth, development and successful operation of a 600 person, $250M/yr business unit. Critical to my successes has been my ability and willingness to listen to a wide variety of people and opinions as well as my ability to bring people together to work towards common objectives.
