Square Peg is a boutique business consulting practice working globally that helps leaders and their organisations go through transitions. As accredited certified management consultants focused on change my teams and I have been supporting clients around the world since 2003 in managing a variety of enterprise-wide challenges such as M&A, organisational and cultural transformation, establishing new mandates such as digital strategies, and meeting new market expectations.

Square Peg Venture Capital is the private investment and development arm of Square Peg. Of particular focus is the performing arts industry where SPVC has been actively investing in and co-producing West End musicals, ballets and plays. We are involved as co-producers of COME FROM AWAY (Tony and Olivier award winner) the UK Tour and West End debut, with annual ballets by Sir Matthew Bourne (this year Edward Scissorhands West End and on tour), with the movie I AM URBAN and with the development of TREASON THE MUSICAL based on the gunpower plot. The current portfolio of small business that have been founded and directed by SPVC include an industrial lifts business, a senior's downsizing firm, and the annual Royal Pavilion Ice Rink in Brighton.

I was confirmed as a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants in 2010 and qualified for my professional designation as CMC in 1989 after 3 years of client reviews and exams. The ICMC (which is little known in the UK but is globally recognised) fosters excellence and integrity in the management consulting profession as a whole. ICMC administers and confers, the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation. Its mission is to advance the practice and profile of management consulting through education and certification of consultants, promotion of ethical standards and professional competency, and advocacy for the profession in public and government settings.

Upon a request from the Bishop of Croydon, I have accepted the position of Board Chairman for this major multi-million-pound redevelopment project in Streatham. The challenge is to manage a portfolio of church assets, divest property to raise development funds, and develop and implement a strategy to transform the current facilities into a vibrant community facility working in partnership with local entrepreneurs, social organisations, businesses, and the church.

In 2018 I accepted a NED (observer) position with The Fish Society which had committed to a high growth strategy, had infused the business with new capital, and was in the process of launching a new website and related campaigns. The Fish Society is the UK’s premier online retail fishmonger selling more than 300 kinds of frozen fish and delivering across Europe. Leveraging their deep relationships with suppliers allows them to source restaurant-grade frozen fish and gourmet seafood to members ensuring that they have access to the widest variety of fresh fish and seafood online. In 2020 the platforms had been established for accelerated growth, a good sustainable plan was in place, and I stood down from my role after a highly enjoyable time working with the Fish Society team.

In addition to assuming the Chairmanship in 2010 I also supported the University as:- Advisory Board member at Kingston University School of Business and Law from 2005.- Guest lecturer at RANELPA - Moscow Business School - in conjunction with Kingston University on M&A.- Visiting Fellow delivering guest lectures (M&A and change management) and supporting students with occasional mentoring.

As a global partner in the consulting firm of Watson Wyatt Worldwide I was posted to the Canadian change practice, then sent to the US to support acquisitions, Korea to work in a confusion culture, and in 1999 came to Europe where I was a change leader in the organisational effectiveness practice focused on global client’s transition agendas. A highlight of my time in this fast paced firm was co-authoring the leading edge European Human Capital Index (HCI) where we calculated the correlation between human capital and shareholder value which allowed us to identify a set of measures to quantifying exactly which HR practices and policies had the greatest impact on driving organisational value.

I was privileged to have been an International Director (1995-1999), Interim Global Chairman (1999) and Chairman of the Toronto Chapter of the SLF (1992-95). The Strategic Leadership Forum, the Internal Society for Strategic Planning and Management, was a professional society of 40+ chapters from around North America.

I was appointed as the senior leader for this major organizational change project where I was charged with ceasing a $100 million asset (with help from the police), closing operations, and re-launching a new brand and institution in less than a year. Cool stuff!

As a development opportunity to gain front line experience I took a role short term (18 month) as the senior leader of this large volunteer based organization in Metropolitan Toronto. Bringing private sector management expertise to the volunteer sector was truly an eye opening and great learning experience. During this time I was responsible for supporting and leading 8 boards of directors and hundreds of fundraising events and marketing programs.
